First big leak of the season!

I guess it was predictable that the first leaks regarding future Basel/Geneva releases started to hit the net. Like it has happened before, Richard Mille is first to open hostilities. The RM018 also known as the "Homage to Boucheron" has just today brought to my attention by one of the Kronosclub's readers, together with this lovely picture. Since I was not given it in advance with the promise of not posting it until the official presentation date. I try to avoid that so that I have the freedom to post them when they are leaked. In the end this is what this site/blog is all about. Here you go...

My source also pointed me to the forum in question and I hate when people take credit for something that I did not post first, I have no choice but to name the source.

Time Tech Talk...

  1. Frankly this looks a bit like a hoax to me, Dario. The picture's clearly been doctored, the markers are not in the right place, and then there are these tiny screws in the corners of the sapphire where they don't belong. Plus, where are the movement's bridges? Don't tell me these are made out of sapphire too? And finally, waddayamean 'Hommage a Boucheron'? Plus, 'swiss made' moved off to the side.

    So many things wrong here...

    My 2c,
    Jos.

  2. Hi Jos,

What would you say if this was not a hoax and it's actually the real RM018? I can confirm that it is the real thing. It is true that the watch has no bridges and the center of the wheels are indeed made of stone. I can't reveal more of the details since I will already get heat for posting this much info, eventually.

In any case, I love that you criticize it and give your honest opinion. I wish more would do the same.

  3. Thanks Dario for your insights. I stand corrected indeed. How did I dare doubt Richard Mille's capacity to surprise the world with yet another innovative movement?

Still don't understand the 'Hommage a Boucheron' bit, though. Did I miss something? Are they renowned for anything else than OD-ing on jewelry in watch cases?

    Rgds,
    Jos.

  4. some might remember that Renaud et Papi did a similar exercise with Mille waaaaay back in the day for Mauboussin - semi-precious stones as bridges etc.? Not only was the Mauboussin project a precusor for the exposed, 3-dimensional arrangement of Richard Mille's eponymous watches, but the use of hardstone bridges paved the way for the AP moss agate tourbillon.
